Kidney disease is a major burden and affects 10% of the global population. Targeted therapies are missing, both due to a lack of strategies for specific targeting of renal cell types and limited pharmacological approaches to pathways perturbed in kidney disorders. RNA therapeutic would be an optimal and highly flexible tool to improve this situation. However, delivering RNA molecules specifically and efficiently to different renal cells first requires the identification of cell-type specific receptors for RNA-loaded nanocarriers. We analyze cell-type specific expression of such receptors in tubular and glomerular kidney diseases  using multilayered single-nucleus RNA sequencing approaches paired with protein and RNA visualization.
